FrISC FAQs

When and where will the FrISC competition be held?
The dates of the live competition are Friday, June 25th for improv and Saturday, June 26th for sketch. Both nights will be held at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City.

How will the winning teams be selected?
A comedy all-star panel of expert judges will determine the winning teams following their performances at the live competition.

What is the prize? Must the winning teams use the money to make a short film?
The winning team in each category will receive $10,000, which must be used to create a comedic short film that will debut at the 2nd annual Friars Club Comedy Film Festival in September (September 23-26) in New York.

My team’s live show regularly runs over an hour long. Should we submit a full performance or an edited sample of multiple shows?
All video submissions should be a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes long. Improv submissions must be 20-30 continuous, unedited minutes of a single performance. Sketch submissions may be an edited sample of your show and/or include produced video segments as long it meets the time requirement. Video elements with production value may also be incorporated into sketch submissions.

The FrISC General Rules state "one entry per sketch or improv team," but my team does both sketch and improv. Must we pick either sketch or improv, or can we submit an application for both competitions?
Teams can only submit one entry per category. Teams that perform both sketch and improv may submit two entries as long as they are in the different categories—so one entry for sketch and one entry for improv. Teams wishing to enter in both categories will need to fill out a separate application form, pay the application fee, etc., for each submission for FrISC organization and administrative purposes.

I am a member of multiple improv/sketch teams. May I participate in submissions entered by more than one of my groups?
Yes, individual performers may participate in the submissions of multiple different groups, but limit one entry per team, per category.

Are cartoons integrated within a sketch performance acceptable?
Sketch submissions may include sketches that incorporate cartoons. However, a continuous cartoon show, such as The Simpsons, would not be eligible because that is not a sketch show.

Is stand-up or solo comedy eligible for entry into FrISC?
Neither stand-up comedy nor one-man performances are considered eligible entries for this competition. We are accepting sketch group submissions as well as improv group submissions.

What size or resolution should the group photo/logo be in?
The group logo/photo should be submitted in a high resolution of 300 dpi.

If my team is selected to compete as a finalist, will FrISC cover our travel and hotel costs?

Unfortunately FrISC cannot cover any costs incurred by participating teams.
